One of the problems with growing up and getting a day job and becoming a boring 9 to 5 person is the inevitable development of dependence on nighttime television for evening entertainment. Going out becomes a special occasion requiring forethought and planning in advance; something often foregone in favor of a cheap brainless night at home that guarantees you'll be in bed by 11 pm. However, when faced with the smorgasbord of network programming and primetime television the question becomes, "what to watch?"
Thankfully, for those of you who have yet to get several months of good solid television-watching under your belts, I have compiled a partial guide to network primetime television, which I will release daily over the course of the week as I continue to watch, starting with this past Monday's programming.
Prison Break - Oooh boy, hang on to your seats boys and girls. The Scoffield brothers have made a run for the border and they're in Mexico! Be sure to stay tuned for next week's thrilling episode, "The Scoffield Brothers Roll a 7-Eleven." Seriously, folks, these guys are amateur criminals at their very best. Makes a body believe it sure doesn't take much to bust out of a federal prison these days. Come on, what kind of fugitive attempts to blackmail his would-be captors with a critical piece of digital evidence IN PERSON and fails to make a backup? I guess Apple's really made some critical headway with their "user friendly" campaign if a guy who's spent hard time in jail knows how to play an mp3 but still can't think of making a copy. Oh wait, then again, maybe he did learn something in jail about intellectual property and the crime of multimedia piracy.
24 - The true Monday Night Special, 24 is the perfect combination of malevolent foreigners, high tech tomfoolery, and enough of the good ol' ultraviolence to suspend all disbelief in favor of truth, justice, and the Jack Bauer way. Well almost. There's just one thing I don't understand: why is it that federal agents are so enamored with a constipated goblin? Seriously, two people in CTU have already hit it... what the heck is up with that? It really isn't as if they haven't got any other more pleasant coworkers to hit on either. You'd think they'd take a cue from their British counterparts over in MI6 and go after the... er... less goblinoid species. And yet, for some reason it's the Brits who end up looking mostly inbred. Nevertheless, if fiction is steeped in truth, it sure explains a lot about Monica-gate and the Lewinsky appeal. BRRRAALLLFPH. Moving on.
And now, as dictated by the boring 9 to 5 lifestyle that I have chosen, I must wrap up tonight's television session and head to bed.
Further bulletins as events warrant.
