In the moments before I nod off into some sort of dead sleep to make up for last night's lack thereof, I feel the need to quickly note some keen observations made by a good friend of mine, who was at the time tooling away on some 6.002 problems while trying to explain relationships to me.
To sum up Carsten's thoughts:
Relationships are all about connections. And when I look around me, I see all these missed connections, like open circuits. Connections are the kind of thing that need to be made by both people - kind of like facilitating current flow from a voltage or current source. So, metaphorically speaking, the men and women in your life are variable resistors. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to make that connection, the resistance is so high that barely any current flows through, and it has to seek an alternate path with less resistance. In fact, right now, I'm seeing all these nonlinear elements, like fucking diodes, where the connection seems to only flow one way! These observations of course imply the series and parallel models of basic circuit elements - one can place all of the circuit elements in parallel and seek out the best connection, which approach the limit of R=0 (a short circuit), or, perhaps, if one is poly, relationships can be modeled with some elements in series.
I just thought this was kind of interesting. Nap time now, but I'm sure there'll be more to come shortly. For instance, the Excellent Toilet Adventure that was had last night.
Further bulletins as events warrant.
